1 . Aloe vera
The aloe vera is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and as a digestive aid. However, it has been found to be effective in treating a chronic condition like ulcerative colitis as well. Researchers at the Queen Mary School of Medicine and Dentistry in London administer 100 ml of aloe vera for patients suffering from mild to moderate colitis for four weeks. It was found that 70% of these patients responded to this form of treatment and also showed signs of improvement.
2 . Wheat grass juice
Wheatgrass Juice has been used for the treatment of various gastrointestinal and other ailments for over 30 years. In 2002, doctors discovered that fresh wheatgrass juice is effective in drastically reducing the symptoms of ulcerative colitis and can also reduce the severity of rectal bleeding. Start by consuming 20 ml of fresh wheat grass juice of the day and you can gradually increase over a period of one month. However, remember that you should not have more than 100 ml of wheat grass juice a day.
3 . Turmeric
Curcumin is a compound in turmeric with anti-inflammatory properties. This compound can reduce the acid secretion of the stomach and protect against injuries such as inflammation along the stomach or intestinal walls and ulcers. A study by Japanese researchers found that having 1 g of turmeric after breakfast and also after dinner for six months can help in preventing a relapse of ulcerative colitis. You could either add this amount of turmeric for your meal or mix it In a glass of water.
4 . Pineapple juice.
The pineapples contain a component called bromelain, which acts as a digestive aid and also has anti-inflammatory properties. Research has found that this component may also be effective in fighting inflammation caused by UC. Take two glasses of pineapple juice a day to get some relief.
5 . Buttermilk
Drink 3 glasses of milk daily to overcome ulcerative colitis. This helps to clean the colon.
Note – Do not add salt to it.
6 . Bananas
Consume at least 2-3 bananas a day to decrease inflammation in the colon.
7 . Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil works very well in ulcerative colitis. Consume one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil three times a day for relief.
8 . Cabbage juice
Drink 4 ounces of cabbage juice. The juice should be organic. It will provide immediate relief of abdominal pain.
9 . Coconut and Honey Water
Boil 3-5 drumsticks in the water for some time. Crush them after peeling the skin. Extract the juice. Add this juice in a glass with coconut water. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey to it. Drink at least once a day.
10 . Omega-3 Fatty Acids
The anti-inflammatory properties of omega-3 fatty acids help reduce IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). Include flaxseed oil, walnuts, salmon, roasted soybeans, oysters, fish oil, etc. in your diet as they are some of the rich sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
11 . Ginger
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of ginger keep the symptoms of ulcerative colitis under control. Add the grated ginger to a cup of boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes and then strain. Add honey and lemon juice to it. Drink twice a day.
12 . Fenugreek
Fenugreek seeds form a defensive layer along the digestive tract. Drink a cup of hot water. Add the ground fenugreek seeds (1 teaspoon) in it. Allow soaking for 4-5 minutes. Drink this tea daily until you notice the effects.
13 . The apples
The apples are rich in phosphorus and iron. Cut an apple into small pieces and place them in a bowl. Put this bowl in a bowl containing boiling water. Steam until the apple chunks become soft. Eat them twice a day.
